The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attempting to rescue an animal – believed to be a horse – in Newchurch this lunchtime (Wednesday).

Several appliances are on scene at Wacklands Lane alongside the Animal Rescue Unit from Newport and the Service’s 4×4 from Ryde.

The emergency crews were called into action at around 11:45 following reports of an animal in difficulty in a field near ‘Wackland’ and ‘Kennel Cottage’ at the end of the Lane.

Firefighters are currently working to assist the animal, which is thought to have got stuck in boggy mud.

The condition of the ageing horse is unknown at this time.
