Hangars at Sandown Airport have been built without planning permission being granted.
Now, the airport owner Mr Danial Subhani, is seeking permission to retain them.
In November 2021, the Isle of Wight Council said it received a planning enforcement complaint about 3 hangars that had been constructed without the necessary permissions.
They were built in the same design and scale as the ones approved in 2016, with a curved roof and overall height of 4.7 metres, and finished in a green covering to blend in with the surroundings.
In planning documents submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, the agent for Mr Subhani Norman White said the hangars were built to give protection to the aircraft. The hangars were being used by aircraft owners already using the airport, on Scotchells Brook Lane, as some craft had turned over in the high wind.
Mr White said the hangars also protected the aircraft from salt corrosion and adverse weather.
You can view the plans, 23/00080/FUL, on the council’s planning portal. Comments can be submitted until 24th February.

When I have any work done on my trees the contractor/surgeon checks that the trees are not protected by law. Why do not building contractors first check that planning permission has been granted before starting work?
Probably too thick to work that one out, or just see the money, knowing at the end of teh day, it won’t be their problem. Just like illegal decking…
One rule for all simple.
Danial is most certainly not a foreigner, you shouldn’t jump to conclusions just from seeing someone’s surname..
no offence to the local or Mr danial naman subhani or his relative Mr abdul rashid subhani but whilst his passport may state british I think we can all work it out from the names, if he sticks to the rules and pays his taxes the same as the rest of us good luck to him
Since when does it matter what name you have in your passport?? He could of been born here for all you know, as for your name John, it’s stems back to a Hebrew name, and even better, in English it actually means toilet!
John is a Hebrew name and in English it means toilet .
John is a Hebrew name, and in English it means toilet!!
Well no this case proves you cannot, there are many British citizen’s people who have inherited an exotic surname, from an ancestor, Nigel Farage is an obvious example. Danial is another.
IV Searle is a nasty little racist who likes to make veiled (and no so veiled) racist comments at any and every opportunity.
A bigger question is why Island Echo allows these blatantly racist comments.
As if we need to ask.
FREE SPEECH my friend, must always come first.
well done ie

Who mentioned anything about “foreigner’s”? Your comment has no relation or reference to the actual article.
Looks like effort has been made to blend these in,it is an airport after all.
At least he didn’t murder innocent trees to improve his view.
Funny the council always notice AFTER building is complete. But hey there’s rules and we all have to go by same as each other.
Leave the guy alone ffs, he’s worked damned hard to turn that airfield into a nice place to go, whether you fly or not good live music and a friendly atmosphere.
So what, those hangers are just big tents, sounds like they had permission, but now lapsed, concentrate your spite on somthing worthwhile like penny feathers, of real and substantial detriment to the island!
The island is in a poor state because all the petty minded morons can do is fight one another, hate anyone that shows a bit of get up and go, but not have guts enough to fight the real enemies, your beloved council and their friendly developers!
Totally agree. What is the problem with hangers for aircraft at an airfield?
The council have continually been against the museum there, and even used Island Toads as an excuse saying a lack of visibility prevented the museum visitors from having safe access. It doesn’t seem an issue leaving the garden centre though?
This has more to do with a local not wanting aeroplanes using an airfield!
Well said.
Well said ! I would guess that due to their construction they would be considered temporary buildings anyway?
Racist idiot who should focus on spelling and grammar
Crikey searl uve got yourself in a bit of a mischief there aven’t ya
