Flying medics from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have touched down in Sandown this lunchtime (Monday) to provide life-saving treatment to a male in his 80s.
It was at around 12:30 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised a community first responder, a critical care paramedic and an ambulance to Sandham Close.
The medical emergency is such that the assistance of air ambulance was requested, with the yellow and green helicopter flying directly from Southampton Hospital to land in a field off Perowne Way.
The assistance of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was also requested with 1 appliance from Sandown attending.
Island Echo understands that it’s not the first time emergency services have responded to the male… the same individual was injured when he became stuck on a ladder in May last year.
Assessment and treatment is underway with a view to airlifting the patient to a mainland hospital.
UPDATE @ 14:35 – The patient has been conveyed by land to St Mary’s Hospital, with the air ambulance relocating to the helipad.
