The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was scrambled to The Bay this afternoon (Friday) in response to an ongoing medical emergency.
Flying doctors were first scrambled from their Thruxton base at around 15:40, quickly making their way south. Having crossed the Solent, locals quickly spotted the yellow and green liveried helicopter in the skies above Sandown.
After circling the locality for a short while, the chopper touched down off The Fairway landing at the home of Sandown and Lake Youth Football Club.
From there, paramedics made the short journey along The Fairway, to a residential address where they were joined by numerous resources from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including an Operational Commander and Critical Care Paramedic.
After around 40 minutes on the ground, the patient was transferred to a land ambulance and conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, with HIOWAA making its way back to base.
