The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the village of St Helens this morning (Saturday) where medics are tending to a seriously ill patient.
Flying doctors were alerted to the medical emergency at an address on St Michael’s Road at just before 08:15, with the helicopter touching down on open land at the bottom of the road by 08:35.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a paramedic crew, an enhanced care paramedic and an enhanced care doctor on scene, with firefighters from Ryde Fire Station also mobilised to assist in the medical response.
Emergency teams are thought to be carrying out a procedure at the roadside.
Family members are aware.
UPDATE @ 09:40 – The patient has been transferred into the air ambulance and airlifted directly to Southampton General Hospital, where they will now undergo further assessment and treatment.
Emergency responders are now standing down from St Helens.
