An operation involving specialist doctors, paramedics and firefighters is underway to move a seriously poorly patient from a rooftop in Sandown this evening (Tuesday).
Flying medics from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are on scene at Pier Passage, off Pier Street, where a multi-agency incident is unfolding.
It was around 17:00 that emergency services first responded to Sandown, with the air ambulance landing on the rugby pitch off The Fairway at around 17:40.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – now accompanied by the HEMS Team – are working alongside fire crews from Ryde and Shanklin to access the rear of a property.
Efforts are underway to stabilise and move the patient at the centre of the operation, with a ladder setup as a makeshift ramp.
It was almost 3 years ago, in March 2023, that emergency services attended the exact same location. On that occasion, an elderly male had fallen from a ladder onto the roof.
UPDATE @ 19:30 – The air ambulance has now lifted from Sandown, returning directly to base at Andover.
The incident has been brought to a close.

It was the same 92 year old male that fell in 2023.
