Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are working to rescue a person from a rooftop in Sandown this evening (Thursday).
The casualty is located on a flat roof to the rear of a large property on Beachfield Road, overlooking the sea.
Multiple appliances from across the Island are on scene including the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Ryde, the Incident Command Unit (ICU) from Newport and the Response Support Vehicle (RSV), also from Newport.
The road has been cordoned off with motorists being diverted locally.
Southern Vectis bus routes 2, 3 and 8 to Newport will divert from Sandown High Street to The Heights via Avenue Road and The Broadway, until further notice.
UPDATE @ 19:02 – The casualty – an elderly male – has now been transferred from the roof to an awaiting ambulance.
Fire crews have used ropes, ladders and a stretcher to safely move the injured male from the precarious position.
A number of other ladders can be seen on the roof, but it’s unclear as to how the casualty came about their injuries.
UPDATE @ 19:23 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident and the road has reopened.
The casualty, who fell around 10ft from a ladder, has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital. His condition is unknown.
Just new it was gonna be an elderly male.
