Flying doctors have been scrambled to assist a horse rider who has fallen from their animal in the West Wight this morning (Tuesday). The incident began at around 10:45 in a remote spot off Middle Road, between Tapnell and Afton. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised an operational commander and a critical care paramedic to the scene, with the assistance of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance called for. Arriving in the skies overhead at 11:15, the distinctive yellow helicopter then touched down in a field opposite Tapnell Farm. Island Echo understands the horse bolted but has since been captured by a member of the public nearby. The incident remains ongoing at this time. UPDATE @ 12:27 – The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team has been called to the incident to assist in stretchering the injured female across the field and to an awaiting ambulance on the main road.
