The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was called to assist a woman who fell from her horse in Freshwater this afternoon (Wednesday).
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were scrambled to the old railway line between Yarmouth and Freshwater after the local female fell from her horse whilst taking part in a hunt, hitting her head on the ground.
The HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) team from HIOWAA were requested to attend the scene amid fears for the patient’s condition, landing at The Causeway at just before 13:45.
Thankfully the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident and has escaped any serious head injuries. She was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance with serious concussion and is tonight recovering with bruising.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance flies 365 days a year, both day and night, providing an efficient, prompt response to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents throughout the region.
