The NORA Upright British Championship – abandoned following the serious injury to Chris Mackett – will be restaged in a slightly amended format on Thursday (1st September) at 19:00.
The majority of the riders in the original meeting will return with one or two new faces joining the tournament, notably former Wightlink Islander Nick Simmons whose demonstration rides earlier in the season have clearly rekindled a competitive streak. With former Islanders Dean Felton and Mark Simmonds impressive in the first staging and back for the re-run, there should be no lack of support from the terraces.
The revised formula will see twelve riders in action culminating in C, B and A Finals based on qualifying scores. The line-up is expected to be (in alphabetical order) Wayne Broadhurst, Alex Chadd, Nigel Coates, Keith Cornell, Giles Dismore, Dean Felton, Graham Knowler, Wayne Parker, Ben Phillips, Darren Phillips, Mark Simmonds, Nick Simmons.
The Grasstrack Championship meeting scheduled for 1st September is likely to be pushed back one week and link in with the sidecar speedway event on 8th September.

Ban it entirely.
Highly polluting with flood lights giving light pollution, massive carbon dioxide emissions from inefficient two stroke engines, terrible noise pollution which I can hear from my house and clouds of dust.
All bad enough but a high accident risk which adds to NHS pressures and costs just to amuse a few bored spectators for an hour or so
If it must happen use push cycles in daylight hours to race one another around the track. A win win for all
