Multiple 999 calls reporting a man in the water calling for help has led to a Coastguard search and rescue operation this evening (Tuesday).
At just before 19:20, members of the public alerted HM Coastguard to a man in the water by Ryde Pier.
Gosport Independent Lifeboat, Ryde Inshore Rescue and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were tasked to the scene.
However, upon arrival of Gosport Lifeboat, it was discovered that the intoxicated casualty had already been rescued from the water and into his broken down RIB by a passing jet ski.
The man had entered the water when his vessel broke down. He was trying to push the boat into harbour when he lost his footing in the channel and became out of his depth.
The jet ski – crewed by a man and a woman – towed the small RIB into Ryde Harbour, where Coastguard Rescue Teams were on hand to meet the casualty and his vessel.
Search and rescue teams have now stood down from the incident and the gentleman has staggered on his way.

What is it with pissed up idiots, wasting emergency crews time, can’t handle your drink stay at home,
drunk i specs we all likes be drunk
It does say intoxicated
Sage comment, there.
Another waste of people’s time and money…I feel for those rescuers whose time is wasted by this kind of idiot
If you examine the first photo you will note that the jet ski was crewed by a woman and a man.
And? It says he was drunk and fell from his rib. The jet ski was rescuing him and towed his rib to shore. This time the jet ski wasn’t the problem. It was helping.
Are you really that inobservent? The woman was clearly in charge of this rescue.
She should have first mention.
I get your point!
Thank you that was me I’m Gemma slate I was taking my neighbour out on the ski as he’s never been on one before not great 1st experience for him Just glad that the man is ok and it wasn’t as serious as it could of been as by the time I got to him he was very exhausted
I was on the back of the ski, I can confirm it was 100% being crewed by the woman and only the woman! First timer and all that!
FINE HIM….. ALL THAT MONEY SPENT ON HIM
Absolutely. These idiots should be made to pay insurance like cars and get done for drunk in charge of a vessel. Could’ve caused a serious accident or worse. More money than sense yet again
All this money being spent on these idiots. Every day we watch jet ski idiots showing off in Ventnor Bay while we have no one in the Beach safety hut to administer first aid to to anyone being stung by weaver fish or any other accidents that can occur on the beach. , not to mention getting the code to the defibulator if there is a cardiac arrest.
Read it again. The jetskiers rescued the idiot in charge of the rib.
Moron
We all love the water we should respect it it that means don’t go in drunk as it will cost a taxpayers money and those that make donations they’re there for emergency only not for the people who don’t respect the water
Prat
I thought it was a crime to be in charge of a vessel on the water whilst intoxicated ( same as drink /driving )
I believe your right Terry I also thought it was a crime to waste emergency services time? But are we really surprised no action will be taken?
If it isn’t it should be!
It is, but only for those boats that require the pilot to have a licence… So ‘big’ boats, basically.
I witnessed this man and his lady friend a few days ago, totally drunk. They had taken the rib out and then we’re stuck on the sands as the tide went out.
They were arguing etc and walking home leaving the boat at anchor until high tide.
It’s surprising that they were so intoxicated whilst out with their boat, more than two days this week.
Not surprising at all there are a lot of idiots out there who think they know what they’re doing on a boat drunk or not.
