Residents from Orchard House Care Home enjoyed an unforgettable day at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival, including 93-year-old Ken who celebrated his birthday in style.
Ken wore a hat that read ‘Happy 93rd Birthday Dad’ and carried 2 large birthday balloons. As he walked through the crowds, festival-goers clapped, waved and sang Happy Birthday. One group even serenaded him spontaneously, creating a moment his family say they will never forget.
Also attending the festival was Orchard House resident Stuart, whose nephew performed live on stage with the Reckless Band, a tribute act to Bryan Adams.
Ken was joined by his daughter and son for the celebration. Alongside Stuart, they sang along to the music and shared laughter throughout the day.
Stuart said:
“It’s a memory I’ll treasure forever. Watching my nephew play on that stage was such a powerful and uplifting experience.”
Katie Schlapp, Head of Lifestyle at Orchard House, said:
“It was incredible to watch our residents enjoying the music so freely and joyfully.
“Seeing their faces light up and truly soak in the atmosphere – that’s a gift beyond words. And to have it all happen on Ken’s birthday made it even more special.”
General Manager Kim Fleming added:
“We’re so grateful to the festival organisers and our dedicated Activity Team for making this possible.
“It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved and a shining example of how age should never be a barrier to creating new memories.”
