An inquest has detailed how an 85-year-old retired businessman from Shanklin was found dead in the grounds of Landguard Manor after consuming a toxic dose of crystal meth.
A Section 9C (in writing) inquest touching on the death of 85-year-old Cecil Eric Mitchell has confirmed that the pensioner died from methamphetamine toxicity.
Mr Mitchell was found dead at around 10:30 on 14th April 2023 within the private woodland area of Landguard Manor, his home on Landguard Manor Road in Shanklin.
Emergency services established a cordon around the site at the time, with the death initially being treated as unexplained, as first reported by Island Echo.
The inquest, held by Senior Coroner Caroline Sumeray, details that toxicology tests revealed a fatal level of methamphetamine – more commonly known as crystal meth – in his system. The drug is rarely encountered in the UK, and its use among elderly individuals is almost unheard of.
It is unknown how Mr Mitchell came about possessing the drug and for what purpose.
Cecil Mitchell was born in Aldershot in 1938 and was a retired business owner.
Senior Coroner Sumeray recorded a conclusion of a drug-related death.

This does not sound right to me. This guy was a fine scale modeller and as a consequence would have come into regular contact with the raw ingredients for the cause reported through his hobby . Having met the guy I am not convinced this is an accurate conclusion?

So surely the death is still very much “unexplained”
even if he had ‘personal reasons’ for wanting to take, or even OD on, it,… if it is “is rarely encountered in the UK”, how the hell did an 85 year old get hold of it ??, (I’m pretty sure you can’t just order it on Amazon)…
