65 cases of COVID-19 have been identified and confirmed on the Island since the start of the month, according to Public Health England.
A total of 542 cases have been listed on the Isle of Wight since the start of the pandemic. That number has increased by 65 since 30th September, with 29 cases recorded in the past week alone.
Although the number of cases is increasing rapidly, the number of people dying from the virus remains steady with a total of 89 people listed as dying from COVID-19.

Still of the opinion that these figures might be skewed by Uni students normally resident on the Island as other previous commenters have mentioned. Would it be too much of a stretch for the health authority to report positive test results that were carried out ON the Island on permanent Island residents, that might give a truer picture.
A big thank you to all the 2nd homeowners and holiday makers who are now down from the midlands and of course Wales. The biggest thank you’s for the helping with the increase in cases goes to the council, bob seely and of course the ever money grabbing and “stuff you locals” ferry companies.
This is free country. If you do not like it, try North Korea.
What a stupid comment
It won’t be a free country much longer it’s on its way to becoming the same as North Korea with all these rules that are getting more stupid each day and causing undue hardship.The government are just seeing how far they can push it and how far we will all obey in their dictatorship
Utter rubbish!
Well how do you think the number of COVID infections have seen a sudden spike here on the island? We all knew it was inevitable given the numbers of visitors throughout the summer months and even now while the children are on half term break. Hopefully the infection rate will slow down over the winter months……..it will if everyone is sensible and stick to the guidelines.
And your evidence for such a ludicrous post is….
Karn people might slate your comment but they know it’s the truth well said good on yer
You idiot. We want freedom
Your comment is total rubbish .
No it’s not….. it’s the truth. People’s businesses versus people’s health….. after all, as the saying goes ‘money makes the world go round’
I totally agree with you
We won’t stay the lowest for long
>posts obvious bait
Maybe you need to go back to reddit
Again in perspective that’s 0.0002% of the island this last week. IF of course they are all islanders.
The number of cases and deaths are not the questions we need answering. They are how many people are being admitted to our one hospital on the Island and how many are in ICU and on ventilators. Rightly or wrongly this is the draw on NHS resource capacity which will dictate whether peoples treatments for other diseases such as cancer may be delayed.
Absolutely right. It attacks the lungs meaning a lot of people develop pneumonia. And once you get that on top of the covid you’re going to be ill for a long time.
proof? sources? no? thought so
This is getting really boring now. Every time new figures come out all the usual repetitive statements come out. It is a fact that if there is no antidote coming along we are all going to catch the virus at some stage.
Ron go crawl under your rock please.
No antidote for stupidity either, ron….. The restrictions are to stop the NHS being overwhelmed. The restrictions are to give us the best chance of surviving if we do get it. The restrictions are buying us time to get a vaccine!
so nurses can do tiktok dances since they are so obviously under pressure?
The sooner we all get it the sooner we will be free, FREEDOM
According to the Telegraph on Saturday 20,000 university students have or have had the virus.
The government scientists and experts are using a non specific PCR test that cannot identity a specific RNA and only RNAs in general which at this time of year like EVERY other year there are plenty of going around in which to create the illusion of a pandemic for some reason which anyone with a brain can easily work out why
Interesting…….And now in simple English for the rest of us???
@SRichards. The ‘illusion of a pandemic’? Over 40M cases reported around the world says otherwise. Yes, of course, the whole world is lying and trying to control us. Help!
That’s cases…not deaths! So bloody what .bs figures yet again.stop scaremongering. Why? Keep the sheep in fear. N still wear masks outside!
Obsessive gov .weve got viruses all around and cancer is killing way more . Most see through it all now
Wow!!!!
Freedom we want freedom
You have no idea what loss of freedom is like. Try growing up in a communist country.
Its now the 20th October , so those that have caught the virus on or before the 6th October are now no longer infected so they should now be removed from the figures as they are now clear of the virus or am i missing something here?
I would think the amount will keep rising due to the stupidity of closing all hospitality places at 10pm, obvious no one thought at 10pm there would be crowds of people going home or elsewhere, all at the same time.. public transport or walking… very stupid idea if they want to try to contain it !
Two coach loads of pensioners unloaded in ventnor this morning and the coaches were from Derbyshire. I thought they were in tier 3 very high risk? Over half not masked up. Surely they shouldn’t be travelling all this way at this time? I thought we were supposed to be protecting the elderly? Not to mention any transmission possibilities to us.
The whole country will be in lockdown soon, these people with it are still travelling around places, and to the island
Good to see a couple of coaches from up North with dozens of old people sitting in the coach with no face masks on.
One new death in an island care home reported today. Make no mistake, cases here are rapidly increasing. July-august 4 cases.
August-sept 10 cases.
Sept- Oct 30 cases.
We are only 20 days into October and we’re at 65 cases already.
Yes, at the moment deaths are low but there is always a long period before deaths will start rising as the hospital admissions and Critical care cases take time to build up. Please take care, stay safe and continue to treat each other with compassion.
On 22nd October (9 days left of this month)
Covid-19 cases:
August = 10 cases
September = 40 cases
October = 80 cases so far
November = 160 maybe???
