40-YEAR-OLD WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ROLLING CAR IN APPLEY AT DAWN

A 40-year-old woman from East Cowes has been arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired through drink or drugs after her car came to rest upside down on its roof in Ryde yesterday morning (Monday). Emergency services were mobilised to Appley Lane at just gone 06:30 to reports that a vehicle had rolled, as first reported by Island Echo. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew and a rapid response paramedic to the scene, later rushing the driver to St Mary’s Hospital under Police escort. Inner and outer cordons were erected in the area as initial investigations got underway. Now, it has been confirmed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary that the driver is under criminal investigation. The 40-year-old woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving while impaired through drink or drugs but has been released under investigation while further enquiries – thought to be blood tests – are completed.
