Police have cordoned off Appley Car Park in Ryde where a car has rolled onto its roof this morning (Monday). The incident on Appley Lane occurred shortly before 06:45 and has seen a Nissan Juke come to a rest with all 4 wheels pointing upwards. Island Echo understands that a medical episode may the reason behind the crash, with Police treating the incident as serious at this time. Both inner and outer cordons have been established, locking down the car park area. A total of 5 Police vehicles are in attendance. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are currently tending to the driver, with an ambulance crew and rapid response paramedic deployed.
The area is expected to remain closed for the time being with vehicular access possible up to Ryde Inshore Rescue only. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement UPDATE @ 07:50 – The driver has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital under blue lights and sirens with a Police escort, indicating the severity of the casualty’s condition. The incident has been scaled back though with access to Appley Car Park now possible. However, a cordon remains in place around the vehicle as Police await recovery.
UPDATE @ 09:17 – Police have confirmed they were called to the scene at 06:32 this morning. 1 person has suffered a serious injury and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
