38-year-old Piers Brazier has been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Scott Cooper at a flat in Ryde on Tuesday.
Detectives investigating the killing have spent the week questioning Brazier, who lived at the flat in George Street where Scott Cooper, of Newport, lost his life. It’s claimed he was stabbed in the eye.
Now, Brazier has been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody to appear before Southampton Magistrates Court later this morning (Saturday).
A 28-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody at this time. However, a 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on conditional police bail while our enquiries continue.
Specialist officers remain in Ryde carrying out enquiries. Hampshire Constabulary would like to thank the public and businesses in the local area for their patience and support.
A search of a property in Jellicoe Road, Ryde is also underway in connection with the murder investigation. Officers have reminded outside the address overnight following a forensic search of the semi-detached home yesterday evening, with further searches taking place this morning.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police attended a flat in George Street on the afternoon of Tuesday 4th January where the body of 33-year-old Scott Edward Cooper was discovered. A cordon was erected and remains in place 4 days later.
The Police’s response to the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to a significant delay in locating the murder scene.
