A 31-year-old man from Newport has been arrested following a disturbance in Newport Town Centre earlier today (Tuesday).
Police were first called shortly after 10:00 to reports of a man causing a disturbance in St James’ Square.
Officers attended and arrested the man on suspicion of common assault and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.
Island Echo understands that the male has been sighted in the area on numerous occasions already this week.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the arrested male remains in custody at this time.
Another low life snort/swill on free handouts and benefits to spend on it all while pensioners get deprived of what they have worked for
I find it more offensive that the police look like a couple of paramilitaries than proper British police officers.
There are so many mouthy Numpty’s on the island
thesedays.
Bang him up.
Well said EIE! I’m sure you are right there are too many mouthy numpties on the Island… verbally or as keyboard ranters. Should they all be banged up, do you think?
Keyboard ranters like to get their words out
peacefully.
Do you know any other word than ‘numpty’. Honestly it’s tiresome.
You and the rest of the commenters are so quick to judge people featured on this ‘news’ website.
Let’s face it, the real issue is the lack of mental health services on the island. Not everyone can afford private care and it causes huge issues with many people, especially with the high percentage of poverty in the area.
Sadly the whole country is suffering with the lack
of mental health services, it’s got worse since the
pandemic and years of austerity.
Personally I am concerned about making the
island a safe place for motorists, everyday I go for
a drive, and no matter where on the island I go
I see persons speeding erratically.
