3 lambs have been killed in a dog attack on Brading Down today (Wednesday).
The animals were killed in a field known as Signal Hill, close to the viewpoint car parks. The incident occurred at around midday.
Owners Cheverton Farm have issued an urgent appeal for information. Sadly, this isn’t the first time the farm has lost animals as a result of sheep worrying.
In a statement, a spokesperson has said:
“Please do not use this post to condemn all dog walkers as we are aware that the majority take care when around sheep. However this particular dog is clearly dangerous and should be stopped”.
Anyone with information should contact Cheverton Farm via their Facebook Page.
If your dog worries livestock you may end up being sued for compensation and, in some circumstances, farmers are legally entitled to shoot and kill dogs if they are endangering their sheep.

Bloody dog owners get a grip !!!!
That Thing should be put down ….
Did you not read the statement from the farmer ? Most dog owners are very responsible around livestock unfortunately it’s the few that give us all a bad name. I feel so sorry for the farmer and hope the culprit is identified and dealt with but please don’t judge all dog owners the same as I can assure you we aren’t.
The irisponsable owner of the dog is far more dangerous, I hope the owner is identified soon, next time it could be a child..
You obviously know nothing about dogs. A dog running amok in a field full of sheep, and killing lambs does not mean the dog is likely to kill or maim children.
I 100% agree that the owner should be brought to justice as this is the farmers livelihood and of course stressful to the sheep. It is the owner’s responsibility to be in charge of their animal. But do not talk bo***cks.
Once a dog gets the taste who knows what it will kill next would you trust your child or grandchildren with a dog who’s killed???????? and I am a animal lover who has animals
You have a very backward and ignorant attitude! To paraphrase the bard, me thinks you doth protest too much..
Mrs Lovejoy
if my dogs attacked sheep if the farmer didnt shoot it I would
You sound a nice dog owner! What about not letting things get in that position in the first place by being responsible and not going in fields with livestock and keeping your dogs on leads
Someone will have a nice dinner
BAA humbug
Farmers should be able to shoot dog owners bet dogs would be kept on lead then
Shoot everyone without any justice or understanding!
What a stupid comment
Shoot the bloody dog, and fine the owner. As has been said here previously, that could have been a small child.
Dog owners are mostly (but not all) irresponsible and uncaring. You only need to look at the amount of dog mess on your average country walk.
If they bag it, then its usually hung from a branch or else just left like a landmine for the unwary.
You didn’t listen to the farmer either! He has said not to post comments berating dog owners. We are not all like that and I think you’ll find the main irresponsible owners are those that keep their dogs as untrained status symbols not pets that’s why they are aggressive.
Pure ignorance. So Old School, it’s not the ‘odd’ bad dog owner, it’s the majority? Get a grip.
Someone will know, someone will have seen something.
Mainlander dog, coming over here and terrorising our sheep. Typical.
Why walk a dog where you know there are sheep so many other places you can go.
“He only wanted to play with them. They must have provoked him”
Well said Old Mike, the amount of thick dog owners who, when their vile pet has leapt up at your child or ruined a picnic, just say ‘He only wants to say hello’ Often it is not the lower classes but the ignorant well to do.
I tell them what they really need to hear.
What does class have to do with it? I think maybe you are the ignorant one.
Animal lovers don’t have pets.
KEEP DOGS ON LEADS!!
A dog is not a pet but a member of the family..
