2nd Cowes Sea Scouts are to run a community auction to raise funds to support young people to attend 2023 World Scout Jamboree in Korea.
2nd Cowes Sea Scouts have 2 young people – aged 14 to 18 – who have been selected to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree to be held in SaeManGeum, South Korea, in August 2023.
The Jamboree in Korea will be the largest Scout camp to be held since the start of the COVID Pandemic with over 40,000 young people from almost every nation on earth taking part. The 2 scouts from 2nd Cowes are part of a 22-strong group from the Isle of Wight, forming part of the 3,240-strong UK Contingent.
Between now and July 2023, the young people from the Island will attend training camps and team-building events, preparing them for living on the hot and humid site in SaeManGeum, Korea. The cost of attending the World Jamboree and the associated training is £3,995 per head, and Island Scouts are busy fundraising with aim of achieving £44,000 (£2,000 per head) by August 2023. The rest of the cost will be met through personal contribution.
Dave Simpson, County Commissioner for Isle of Wight Scouts said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for these Scouts and one of the largest contingents we have sent to a World Scout Jamboree. Anyone wanting to support our scouts to enable them to get to the Jamboree is encouraged to contact us.”
The auction takes place at the 2nd Cowes Sea Scouts Headquarters at Smithards Lane, Cowes, on Saturday 16 July 2022. Viewing is from 9:00 to 11:00; the auction starts at 11:30. Everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available.
The Group is appealing for donations of good quality items which can be auctioned. The group can be contacted via [email protected].
