Monkey Haven’s Javan Iangur Treacle – who recently celebrated her 28th birthday – has been confirmed as the oldest monkey of her kind in the world.
Treacle has been living at the Newport-based haven since December 2012. Javan Iangur’s are usually found in the Island’s of Indonesia.
The Javan Iangur celebrated her birthday on Friday 11th October alongside her best friend, fellow Iangur, Wheat.
Surprisingly, Treacle, who loves eating seeds, fruits, flowers, bark and mushrooms, was only supposed to live until the age of around 20.
It hasn’t been a stress free 28 years for Treacle though, with the Javan Iangur having to have her eye removed back in 2022 after she contracted an infection in her upper jaw and eye socket.
