2 Ryde Harriers have completed the popular Newport Marathon in South Wales.
In good conditions, Dave Hunt and Tom Fallick set off in a large field and were soon into their race plans, with Dave running each mile in 5min 43sec, while Tom set off aiming to break the 3-hour barrier with a pace of 6min 50sec.
Dave was going very well and looking to run under 2hr 30min, but unfortunately got a bad stitch around the 25km point. He attempted to briefly walk it off but to no avail, so decided to slow but to make it to the finish. This he did in still the very reasonable time of 2hrs 38min 29sec.
Besides being disappointed, he was still 22nd in a race of almost 3,000 athletes and 7th in his V40 age group.
Tom continued with his plan and was running very consistently, and was strong enough to pick up the pace in the last 8 kilometres to finish in 2hrs 57min 35sec in 225th place. This was an outstanding run and another Ryde Harrier breaking the 3-hour barrier.
