A 27-year-old man from Newport and a 26-year-old man from Ryde have been arrested on suspicion of theft from a vehicle following an incident in Ryde during the early hours of this morning (Friday).
Police were alerted to 2 individuals trying car door handles in the Oakfield/Elmfield area of Ryde overnight. It was also reported that a wallet and a parking permit were taken from a car on Great Preston Road.
Officers attended the scene and detained 2 men on suspicion of theft.
Motorists in the High Park Road and Great Preston Road areas of Ryde are being urged to check their vehicles, especially if they are normally left unlocked. This includes vehicles parked on driveways.
The arrested duo remain in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.

Being in poverty is no excuse for thieving. Not everyone with not much to their name resorts to it. It comes down to upbringing and manners and respect, sadly lacking in a lot of people now.

Around three years ago my car was broken into and vandalised, after reporting it to police nothing was investigated, I was just given a crime number

Good job by the Police again. Too many reports of law breakers on the island now. Where are they all of a sudden coming from? Drugs, speeding, uninsured, untaxed dangerous driving, burglary…… Are these idiots all ‘home grown iowters’ or transfers from the mainland? Would be interesting to know.
