A 2-vehicle crash is causing disruption on a busy Isle of Wight route this lunchtime (Wednesday).
Police and paramedics were first called to the scene on The Downs Road just past Newport Shute at around 11:50 following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
At the scene, a Toyota Yaris had collided with the rear of a Ford Galaxy Taxi. The small Japanese-made hatchback has sustained significant front end damage.
Recovery agents from Bartletts – whose depot is just minutes from the location of the crash – have worked quickly to recover the Yaris. It is understood that no injuries have been reported.
The Downs Road is currently blocked to traffic heading towards The Downs from Downend/The Hare and Hounds.
Police are currently sweeping debris off the road at the crash site ahead of the reopening of carriageway.
The road is expected to completely re-open shortly.
UPDATE @ 13:15 – The Downs Road has reopened in both directions.
