A 16-year-old boy has been arrested, questioned and bailed in connection with a crash on Bleak Down earlier this week, in which the driver of a Mini fled the scene. Police are now appealing for information following Monday evening’s smash on Niton Road, between Rookley and Niton. As first reported by Island Echo, a silver Mini One and a grey Nissan Qashqai were involved in a road traffic collision across Bleak Down. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained. It’s alleged that the driver of the Mini fled the scene prior to the Police’s arrival. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy from Newport was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention, drug driving, driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a license and using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third party insurance. He has been released on Police bail until 19th May and enquiries continue. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240073695.

Charge him with attempted murder.
Well no because that’s a whole different law and allegation. I very much doubt he did this to purposely try and kill someone. Also , thankfully, nobody was even injured in this so it just doesn’t correspond correctly.
Anyone who drives a car without a driving licence, or under the influence of drink/drugs, or lacking their full faculties could potentially kill someone. They are utterly irresponsible and should be hanged.
Yes I understand its irresponsible but its alot more different when it’s a full grown adult compared to a young boy.
no need to allege the driver left the scene. There were enough of us including my dashcam see him and his mate leave!
Lol, why’d you crash into him though, that were a silly thing to do.
That is a childish remark, you ought to be ashamed of yourself, if you cannot contribute sensible content don’t bother!
Stand by for a 12 month community order, a 12 month ban on a licence he hasn’t got and 2 weeks in Crete all inclusive.
16 or 60
Still could have killed innocent people
This moron needs locking up and Banning from driving for life.
If we don’t get tough with these idiots they will keep re-offending
Do what they would do in Saudi to such people.
Unfortunately the little turd didn’t seem to have a licence, insurance and on drugs so banning filth like this has no effect as they will break the law again and again because the have no respect or discipline having been dragged up by “parents” whose sole reason for breeding is to get more unearned income from the state, put bluntly these youths are nothing more than a cash crop.
What would they do in Saudi to underage drivers who cause accidents?
The legal age for driving is 18 in Saudi. Any crime committed by an under age driver will lead to punishment of the parent. Driving offences like this can be punished by up to 10 years in jail. Reckless driving that causes someone’s death can be punished by beheading depending on the wishes of the family of the deceased.
So maybe we should be more like the Saudis then. Oh, hang on, don’t they murder journalists and chop up their bodies? And what about the way they treat women?
They have a Karen like Ivy Searle stoned to death.
He’s only a young lad and I know that isn’t an excuse for his actions but it does mean that there is a chance that he can be helped with appropriate support to stop him becoming like his parents. I feel like he is partly justified where he is at such a young age. This is just the consequences from having bad parents and inadequate education.
Scumbag ratboys never change.
Problem being some even thicker womb owner will allow it to be filled if it hasn’t been already by such trash to then bring the next generation more cost and misery.
So HE will be the parent to blame next as its vile dna ruins future lives
Do stop your hand wringing. People who think like you are the reason this country is in such a bad state. Bring back compulsory national service, that will sort these feral idiots out.
I’m sorry but he knew what he was doing was wrong but made that decision anyway. Now he will face the (weak) consequences to his actions. I question the intelligence of these kids, cause and effect is a pretty simple concept to understand.
Little scum scrot wont get fall ..
This is why we need borstals back that will deal with little feral brat shits like him
But where he’s young it’s usually the parents to blame. It was their responsibility to make sure he didn’t turn out this way but they didn’t, so that is on them not the boy.
Although upbringing does have an impact, a 16 year old still knows right from wrong, time to take some responsibility and face the consequences of his decision. Best case he learns from this and doesn’t do anything like it again, worst case, he continues down this road and becomes a burden/menace to society.
What information police need, got the car,got witnesses, got dash cam and got the driver, shouldn’t need court CPS should be able to give punishment,Court is why so many guilty get away.
He’ll be slapped on the wrist. No further action. It is the justice system ‘brought up to date for the modern criminal’.
Funny how mouth almighty King Kev has little to say regarding older drivers now it’s a youngster involved! Cat got your tounge lad?
Stupid kid. Not old enough to drive. Charge him hard, it’s the only way idiots like him will get the message they can’t just do as they like.
This shit happens everywhere all your comments make me laugh grow the fuck up kids will be kids, if i would of taken drugs I would of ran aswell good luck to the young chap and I wish him all the best in court
Idiotic comment! Don’t think you would have made this comment if someone had got seriously injured or killed!!
I wouldn’t of got cought
With your level of intelligence it wouldn’t take long for you to get caught…
The problem is the courts for fining offenders a trivial amount which is worth it to him for the joy ride. I suppose we could rush the driver instead of the car for a long term solution.
A detterent has to be found. A fine that 10 times cheaper than insurance is ridiculous. Take away their phones and video games, give them a curfew, ban them from owning or driving anything bigger than a moped until he’s 25. They can still get about. That’s a detterent with plenty of time to reflect on his reckless potentially deadly family destroying actions. Families of feral offspring should also be held accountable as they are responsible for producing wayward children.
Deport the population of Pan estate to Rwanda.
Very sad how It’s getting over here. Such a young age. It was a 16 year old who hurt the lady in East Cowes Central store. A 16 year old, drug driving in this incident. They clearly have no fear these days starting crime so young ☹️
