A 16-year-old boy has been arrested, questioned and bailed in connection with a crash on Bleak Down earlier this week, in which the driver of a Mini fled the scene. Police are now appealing for information following Monday evening’s smash on Niton Road, between Rookley and Niton. As first reported by Island Echo, a silver Mini One and a grey Nissan Qashqai were involved in a road traffic collision across Bleak Down. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained. It’s alleged that the driver of the Mini fled the scene prior to the Police’s arrival. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy from Newport was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention, drug driving, driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a license and using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third party insurance. He has been released on Police bail until 19th May and enquiries continue. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240073695.

Anyone who drives a car without a driving licence, or under the influence of drink/drugs, or lacking their full faculties could potentially kill someone. They are utterly irresponsible and should be hanged.

The legal age for driving is 18 in Saudi. Any crime committed by an under age driver will lead to punishment of the parent. Driving offences like this can be punished by up to 10 years in jail. Reckless driving that causes someone’s death can be punished by beheading depending on the wishes of the family of the deceased.
So maybe we should be more like the Saudis then. Oh, hang on, don’t they murder journalists and chop up their bodies? And what about the way they treat women?

He’s only a young lad and I know that isn’t an excuse for his actions but it does mean that there is a chance that he can be helped with appropriate support to stop him becoming like his parents. Although upbringing does have an impact, a 16 year old still knows right from wrong, time to take some responsibility and face the consequences of his decision. Best case he learns from this and doesn’t do anything like it again, worst case, he continues down this road and becomes a burden/menace to society.
What information police need,got the car,got witnesses,got dash cam and got the driver, shouldn’t need court CPS should be able to give punishment,Court is why so many guilty get away.

The problem is the courts for fining offenders a trivial amount which is worth it to him for the joy ride. I suppose we could rush the driver instead of the car for a long term solution.
A detterent has to be found. A fine that 10 times cheaper than insurance is ridiculous. Take away their phones and video games, give them a curfew, ban them from owning or driving anything bigger than a moped until he’s 25. They can still get about. That’s a detterent with plenty of time to reflect on his reckless potentially deadly family destroying actions. Families of feral offspring should also be held accountable as they are responsible for producing wayward children.
