A 16-year-old boy from Sandown has been charged with driving without a licence and insurance after he was stopped by Police in Newport yesterday afternoon (Monday). Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended Godric Road, near the junction with Saxon Close, at around 15:30. Having stopped the vehicle – a BMW 7-series – it was found that the driver was just 16 years old. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle on a road without 3rd party insurance. Island Echo understands that the driver made off into the nearby Pan Meadows Country Park where he was thought to have been located by officers a short while later. The vehicle was seized by Police and recovered by Bartletts. The youth will now appear before Magistrates at the Isle of Wight Youth Court on 14th February.
