A 100m cordon has been erected following the discovery of a suspected piece of historic ordnance in a Ventnor garden earlier today (Wednesday).
Police were called at 11:05 this morning (Wednesday) following the discovery of what is believed to be a piece of historic ordnance in a garden at an address on Gills Cliff Road in Ventnor.
Officers are currently in attendance with a 100m cordon put in place and the site evacuated as a precaution.
As a result, ‘Lower’ Gills Cliff Road is currently closed between the junctions with Castle Road and Whitwell Road. Southern Vectis route 6 buses are currently unable to serve Lower Gills Cliff Road, Ventnor Park, Eversley Hotel, Alpine and St Catherine’s Church.
Specialist officers will be attending to carry out further enquiries and to remove the ordinance for safe disposal in due course.

I realise they have to take it serious but their must be a better way of identifying things before calling in The specialists. Like pictures and video before panic.
