A man has been conveyed to hospital after being injured as a result of a boat running aground off the West coast of the Isle of Wight.
Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard at just before 18:00 this evening (Wednesday) when a yacht reported it had run aground close to Colwell Bay.
1 of the crew members sustained an injury, leading to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilising a paramedic crew, a Co-Responder and an Operational Commander.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to Colwell Bay to overview the multi-agency operation.
The injured man has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport for treatment.
UPDATE – Yarmouth RNLI and Needles CRT watched over the 42ft yacht until she refloated at around 21:15. The vessel, with 3 others onboard, was escorted to Yarmouth Harbour.

Having googled for what googans are as never heard this word before it was interesting that it’s defined as illegal fisherman. Let’s wait and see but still wish the injured person a speedy recovery.
In order to take a boat out on the water they need to be licensed after passing a test, just has we do for a car or a light aircraft.
They should also be insured in order to pay the bill for being rescued, it shouldn’t be free for all.
Truth is, you don’t need a licence to take out a small boat on the sea…. Inland waterways is a different matter, you DO need a licence and it’s not cheap…No insurance = idiot.
Best to wait and see what exactly caused this. Hope the injury wasn’t too bad and wish the person a speedy recovery.
