A yacht that suffered an engine fire in the Solent sparked a rescue operation by Cowes RNLI lifeboat yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
The 37ft Haven Star, with 2 men and 2 women on board, reported the fire while east of Cowes Harbour.
Although the crew managed to put the fire out with 2 powder extinguishers before the lifeboat arrived, the yacht’s loss of power meant it still needed its assistance.
A stern tow then took the yacht to its base at Hornet Marina, Gosport.
The lifeboat, which launched at 13:10, returned to station at 15:30.
