Disruption on Red Funnel’s East Cowes-Southampton vehicle ferry service continues into the new week with a number of cancellations due to adverse weather conditions.
The 04:30 and 07:30 sailings from Southampton have been pulled this morning (Monday), alongside the 06:00 and 09:00 sailings from East Cowes.
The cross-Solent operator has cancelled these sailings as they were due to be operated using Red Osprey. The vessel is running on reduced engine power to keep the vessel limping along, meaning it cannot cope with adverse weather as well as its sister ships.
Red Funnel apologises for any inconvenience.
UPDATE @ 08:19 – Red Funnel has now also cancelled the 10:30 and 13:30 sailings from Southampton, as well as the 12:00 and 15:00 sailings from East Cowes.
Hovertravel has suspended its Ryde-Southsea service in its entirety, with the next update due at 09:45.
Red Jet will cancel at the mere hint of a breeze. Yesterday they cancelled the 13:50 Red Jet AND the 15:00 Red Funnel car ferry and the wind at that time was 15 mph. Oddly the 15:00 Red Jet passenger ferry did cross and it was not remotely bumpy. The captain announced on the crossing that they will cancel if the waves are more than 3 metres (they were not even near that) or if the wind is more than 15 knots per hour which converts to 17 miles per hour. In other words, a bit breezy. Unbelievable.
Omg stop complaining, it is awful weather and they obviously think it’s unsafe to sail? I definitely would not want to be on the sea in a ferry in this weather!
Did you even read my comment? I WAS on the 3PM Red Jet ferry yesterday the same time they cancelled the 3PM Red Funnel (for weather) and it was perfectly smooth sailing. And unless you are 13 stop with the OMGs and !!!!!!
How difficult would it have been to simply swap Osprey out for the other one? What pathetically inept management.
