The 4th event of Wight Tri’s Summer Splash and Dash series took place at the Yaverland Sailing Club with the Yaverland Aquabike Event on Friday (9th August). The choice of a 200m or 400m swim, followed by either a 1 or 2 laps (10km or 19.5km) cycle out to Bembridge via the airport road, saw 14 members take on this challenge. 1st in the nominated event was Dan Morgan who completed the long course in 42mins 36s, just 6 seconds over his nominated time. 2nd was Roy Young, 25 seconds over his short course nominated time of 29.30, with Lucy Doorly 3rd, posting a fast 50:05 for the long course and 35 seconds adrift. Fastest overall on the long course was Dan Morgan, closely followed by Rob Johnson in 43:34, with Rob posting the fastest swim time. Lucy Doorly was the fastest female in 50:05 but was chased on the bike by Claire Squirrel, who posted the fasted female bike split of 39:03 to finish in 51:28. New member Mik Onions had a storming race in the short course event with a super fast swim and bike split to finish in 23:11. Lisa Taylor, despite having a puncture a few kilometres to the finish, ran with her bike so she could complete the course, showing true grit and determination. The next event, Gurnard Aquathlon 2, is also the final event of the series and takes place this Friday 16th August, with an 18:30 start from Gurnard Sailing Club.
