A significant incident on board a yacht has led to a multi-agency response to Yarmouth Harbour this afternoon (Tuesday), where cordons have been erected around the vessel.
It was around 12:30 that both Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat and Lymington RNLI‘s Inshore Lifeboat were paged to launch by Solent Coastguard in response to a reported emergency in the Western Solent near Milford-on-Sea. It had been reported that a man had become injured.
Coastguard Rescue 175 also responded to the call for help, lowering an onboard paramedic onto the yacht to provide immediate casualty care to the male.
The yacht at the centre of this afternoon’s drama, around 45ft in length, has since been brought into Yarmouth – accompanied by both lifeboats – and moored up, with assistance from Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.
Detectives from Newport CID have arrived at the quayside in the West Wight as investigations into the incident get underway.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – and flying medics from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance – rendezvoused with the lifeboat crews upon their arrival.
However, all medics have now stood down from the incident. No persons have been conveyed to hospital.
Police remain on scene and cordons are still in place. As a result, vehicular traffic entering Wightlink’s terminal is being diverted.
The Coastguard Helicopter winchman has been taken to Newport to be collected by Rescue 175 from Seaclose Park. Lymington Lifeboat has returned to station.
