A yacht which found itself in a sticky situation off St Catherines Point has managed to continue its race despite running aground this morning (Saturday).
The crew of 18 sailors are taking part in the Round the Island Race, but cut too close to shore during their efforts to catch less tide.
HM Coastguard tasked Yarmouth RNLI Lifeboat to assist the vessel, alongside land-based Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team to observe the scene from nearby cliff tops, at around 11:20.
Yarmouth’s Severn Class lifeboat struggled to approach the vessel due to the volume of other boats taking part in the race, but was eventually able to launch its smaller RIB and make contact with the crew.

2 other privately owned RIBs assisted in pulling the vessel off its grounding point and back out to deeper waters.
The yacht then, under its own sail and having been left undamaged during the incident, headed towards Bembridge.
