The Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association’s Winter League is already shaping up to be a fascinating contest, with teams from Ryde, Wroxall and Newport dominating their respective divisions.
In Division 1…
Ryde dominance continues.
Ryde teams remain in control, with Ryde C heading the table ahead of Ryde A and Havenstreet A. Havenstreet slipped to 3rd place after their 7–3 defeat to Ryde A, with Scott Lawson and Mark Turner unbeaten for the visitors. Ryde C swept aside Ryde B 8–2, with the B side’s Alex Rorke scoring their only points. Ryde Rankers handed newly promoted Ryde Revellers a heavy 9–1 defeat, with Gourav Shah taking the Revellers’ sole win over Elaine Mills, while Spike Hughes was unlucky to lose in five sets to Mills.

In Division 2…
Newport sides lead the way.
Both Newport Vics A and B are setting the pace at the top of the table. Vics A enjoyed a comfortable 10–0 victory over Ryde Rogues, with Rob Warren named player of the match. Vics B had a tougher test against Shorwell Sinners, with many matches going to five sets and the contest finishing 7–3 to Newport. Shorwell’s Guy Golbourne had a gruelling night, winning two and narrowly losing only to Paul Lewis. Lewis and teammate Michael Jose also took the doubles in another 5-set thriller. Havenstreet B recorded a strong 8–2 win over Ryde Rovers, with Dave Rendle unbeaten.

Wroxall power on top.
Wroxall’s 4 teams continue to impress, with their A and B sides leading the standings and Shorwell Saviours close behind. Wroxall A eased past Newport Vics C 7–3, thanks to an unbeaten performance from Andrew Bailey and 2 wins from Jon Steele. The new Cowes Baptists team also made a strong statement with a 9–1 victory over Ryde Raiders.
