Work is underway at the new Screwfix store that is set to open up in Lake, but no date for an official opening has yet been announced.
As previously reported by Island Echo, earlier in the year, Screwfix unveiled plans to transform the former Tile Superstores and Isle Jump trampoline park buildings into a new Island branch.
According to the plans, the proposed new location behind Aldi will see the former Tile Superstores site house the main counter, whilst the former trampoline park will be converted into a warehouse.
The major chain already has a branch in Newport on the Dodnor Industrial Estate – it opened 11 years ago.
Now, signs have been erected on Heras fencing advertising that the trade supplies store is coming soon.
Island Echo initially heard of these plans for a new store back in March but it is only now that an official application has been made to the Isle of Wight Council.
At the time, a spokesperson for Screwfix said:
“As we continue to grow our store network we will announce details about each new store, including planned dates for opening, in due course. Customers can find up to date store information on Screwfix.com“.

That’s good, but Toolstation wins for me 90% of time , since Screwfix did away with browsing catalogue ( nice to see many simula products together in one view) in favour of touch screen, having to still order online in store or before is so less customer friendly for many and limit customer interaction with staff and so reduces staff knowledge of products from trades people and customer experience etc.
They will probably follow suit soon…
