At just before 17:30 Cowes RNLI lifeboat was tasked to Shepards Marina by Solent Coastguard following reports of an injured crew member on board a yacht.
The 32ft yacht was near the entrance to Cowes Harbour when the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was apparently hit by the boom in the gusty conditions.
Casualty care trained lifeboat crew and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service provided assistance the lady.
The yacht was moored outside other yachts, a technique called rafting. To enable easy evacuation from the yacht to a pontoon and onwards to the waiting ambulance, Cowes Lifeboat manoeuvred the yacht to an empty pontoon slot.
