A Sandown woman who was seen driving around Ryde in a brand new car whilst drunk – and almost hit a Southern Vectis bus in the process – has pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Louise Barlow, 48, of Fitzroy Street, pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (2nd June).
Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that on the evening of 17th May, at around 17:30, Police were notified of a possible drink driver after receiving a call from a member of the public saying that a vehicle – a Volvo XC40 – was being driven into oncoming traffic and swerving in the road, nearly hitting a bus in the area around Tesco Extra on Brading Road.
Officers located the vehicle on Great Preston Road noticing that Barlow – the only occupant in the vehicle – was on the incorrect side of the road. It was heard in court how officers thought the 48-year-old to be intoxicated.
The car continued to drive through Ryde and was seen driving slowly on St John’s Hill and Warwick Street until officers activated blue lights on George Street eventually stopping the Swedish motor in Co-op car park near Anglesea Street.
Barlow was asked to step out of the vehicle and complete a roadside breath test which she failed. At Newport Police Station, an evidential reading was taken which returned a reading of 136 – nearly 4x the legal limit of 35.
Defending, Barry Culshaw said that Barlow has ‘issues’ that a pre-sentence report will address. Because of that, Magistrates ordered that case be adjourned until 7th July.
Barlow has been handed an interim driving ban in the meantime.

We all have issues, what a load of cods wallop. Just a piss head leading an irresponsible life putting innocent members of the public at risk. Glad she has been named and now shamed.
Drink driving will never end until the idiots are thrown straight into Prison for their
Life threatening crimes.
They are putting innocent lives at risk.
Here we go again? What does it take for these stupid irresponsible idiots to hurt or kill somebody before the courts take notice??
Stop defending these idiots, prosecute them, take their driving licenses, make them pay big fines, then they can catch the bus??
The news on IE is the same old news about idiots?
What an absolute menace, there is no excuses, we all have ‘issues’ but don’t drink-drive. 10 year ban is required.
Drug drivers are better then this scum
‘Issues’ The only issue here is she drank the alcohol, then drove a car and got caught, end of.
A brand new Volvo XC40? and enough money to be able to be pissed up while driving it. Must be be claiming benefits
