UPDATED: An unconscious woman has been plucked from the sea off Ryde by Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 this lunchtime (Friday).
Multiple emergency services are currently involved in the rescue operation including Ryde Inshore Rescue, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The helicopter from Lee-On-Solent is flying the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital after winching her out of the sea just off Ryde Pier.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 12:15.
Island Echo understands the woman was swimming in the area and set off from near the harbour as her next of kin watched on.
UPDATE @ 12:53 – Emergency services have now stood down from the incident, but the battle to save the woman continues in the emergency department at St Mary’s Hospital.
