As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Clatterford Road between Carisbrooke and Shorwell at 13:30 on Sunday after two cars and a cyclist were involved in a serious collision.
Firefighters from Newport worked to free a woman trapped in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles before she was flown to Southampton General Hospital with ‘non-life threatening injuries’. However, Police have today (Thursday) confirmed that the woman has since died.
Avrik Ya, the cyclist involved in the the incident, has told Island Echo:
“The car was traveling in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road and hit me head on at about 40mph before crashing into the car behind me. The driver was elderly and his wife was injured in the crash too.
Avrik suffered a broken arm and injured leg in the collision.
The incident occurred just hours before another fatal collision.
Mrs Twine was traveling in a silver Citroen C4, driven by her husband, when it was involved in a collision with a bicycle and two other cars heading in the opposite direction.
Joan suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, although Police said at the time that her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
