UPDATED: Detectives are questioning a 66-year-old woman on suspicion of child abduction following an incident in Cowes last night (Sunday).
Police were called to the Red Jet terminal at just gone 23:00, where officers ended up arresting a woman on suspicion of attempting to take a child so as to remove her from a person having lawful control.
It follows an argument between the lady in question and a 37-year-old man over his 4-year-old daughter.
Enquiries are continuing and the woman is being questioned at Newport Police Station.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that the 66-year-old woman arrested on Sunday night has been released from custody without charge, although she remains under investigation.
