A 30-year-old woman from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after rolling a car onto its roof in Newport earlier this morning (Tuesday).
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Whitepit Lane at just before 09:25 to reports of 3 vehicles being damaged – 1 of which had smashed into a parked car and rolled onto its side, blocking the road.
Island Echo understands a grey Volkswagen Golf Plus was travelling towards Carisbrooke when the female driver failed to give way to an oncoming Nissan van. As a result, the Golf crashed into a parked white Citroen C3.
In dramatic style, the VW then spun and rolled, smashing into the van before coming to rest on its side across the carriageway. White paint inside the Golf poured out over the interior and covered the male and female occupants.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that no injuries were sustained in the smash, but the driver of the Golf has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
She has been taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
UPDATE @ 11:25 – Whitepit Lane has now reopened to all traffic following recovery of the vehicles involved.

[…] WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DRUG DRIVING AFTER CAR FLIPS IN NEWPORT SMASH […]
When are Donna Jones and Phil Jordan going to declare a Drug driving Emergency on the Isle of Wight and put the full resources of Hampshire and Isle of Wight police on the case.
We seem to have more arrests for Drug driving than Drink driving.
When do we have the resources to ban stoned drivers from our roads?
In many areas drug driving is more common than drink driving. I suspect the public do not see the former as being as serious as the latter though if you are killed by either you are still dead.
Those of you who voted for this feeble government, take note-
Thieves and drug dealers to avoid courtLower-tier offenders should receive warnings or rehabilitation to reduce backlog of cases, review will recommend
but this government are no worst that the 14 years of Tory incompetance before them…(yes, the backlog you speak of is mostly due to a lack of investment and action by the previous CONservative govenment)
& god help us if Deform get into governemnt,… all they are interested in is privatising the NHS (& any other public institutions) and lining the pockets of them & their ‘friends’ as much as possible….
They certainly won’t do anything positive in this respect,…
Why block out her face? Let’s name and shame, she could have hurt or killed somebody? Glad she wrote her car off serves her right!
Because Numpty druggies are not being locked up
the least the penalty could be is a driving ban for
life.
We need strong deterrents to stop these selfish
persons putting peoples lives at risk.
Because we still operate the principle tht someone is innocent until proved guilty and she has yet to either plead guilty or be convicted. We want her to be tried bythe courts not by social media.
It wasn’t her car
I hope that the insurance company DO NOT pay up for the loss. She should be banned from driving and any others that drink or drug drive for LIFE. It was them and only them that knew right from wrong.
