A Newport woman arrested on suspicion of committing several shoplifting offences this week – as well as a burglary at an address in Devon last month – has been released on bail.
Police were called to a report of shoplifting at Sports Direct, South Street, Newport shortly before 11:20 on Thursday morning (5th September).
At the scene, a 31-year-old woman from Newport was subsequently arrested on suspicion of several shoplifting offences, assault by beating of an emergency worker, common assault and burglary.
The shopliftings were reported at TK Maxx and Sports Direct on Thursday 5th September, Asda on Tuesday 3rd September, Co-op in Ryde on Monday 2nd September and W Hurst & Son in Newport on Monday 22nd July.
The common assault was reported on South Street, on Thursday 5th September, whilst the burglary was reported at an address in Torquay, Devon back in August.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the woman has since been released on conditional police bail, pending further enquiries.
