The Isle of Wight Men’s 1st team took a 7-1 victory over Fareham this week, with both sides showing their intent and intensity.
The Island drew first blood as Adam Payne slotted home his first of 4 goals. However, Fareham came back with a scrappy tap in at the far post to level the score. Samuel Challis, Tom Turney and Will Mew were vital going forward and the former scored with a delicate reverse stick shot to bring the score to 2-1 at the break.
Aaron Hoare, Stuart Allen, Lewis Heaven-Gandy absorbed the Fareham attack and Alex Breach and Turjanica kept the attack flowing down the right wing. Stephen Woodford was tenacious out on the left and linked up well with the energetic forward line. Mew, Turney and Payne all scored in quick succession.

The Isle of Wight Ladies’ 1st team took on Trojan 4s securing a 7-0 victory.
The Island side took a couple of minutes to settle into the game with the Trojans playing well. The Islanders retaliated with Katy Ednay scoring on the inside near post. After a play down the right, Jamie Payne received the ball and slotted it into the back of the net. Saffron Hart quickly scored another to end the half, 3-0.
The Wight ladies settled into the second half and were rewarded with goals from Lola Marfleet & Carolyn McClellan. After several short corners and after a hard strike, Georgia Whittle scored from the volley. The final goal came from Katy Ednay, the Island remains top of the league.

It was a win for the Men’s 2nd team against Basingstoke with the Islanders putting up a strong battle.
The game started on an even keel with both teams having chances, a breakthrough came when Carl Joyce put the ball to Tom Young who had a reverse shot saved by the keeper, but Finn Woodford calmly slotted the deflected shot into the bottom corner. Half time 1-1.
The second half started and the Island lost their way, saves from keeper Lewis Wells. defending from Toby Noyes and a goal line clearance from Ash Metcalf kept the Island in the game. After some changes, the last 15 mins were the Island’s. Carl Joyce passed to Tom Gould, then to Tom Young who slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs to make it 2-1. The Island needed another goal and Steve Holbrook put the ball onto the stick of Tom Young who scored over the keeper.
