This year Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council worked with contractor NDL Electrical to give young people a chance to be involved in designing the town’s Christmas lights.
Young people from across the Island were invited to design their own illuminated Christmas decoration as part of the ‘Light Up a Lamppost’ competition, which would see 3 winning designs handmade by NDL Electrical and attached to lampposts in Newport as part of the Christmas festivities.
The 3 winners, Liam Finch (aged 14), Zoe Foster (aged 6) and Angel-Hope Love (aged 5) all attended the Newport ‘Day of Christmas’, where their bespoke designs were illuminated for the first time when they pushed the plunger together in front of an audience of hundreds.
Liam designed a happy elf motif, Zoe’s design featured robins and Angel-Hope’s design showed Father Christmas in his sleigh.
The winning designs can be seen on lampposts along Church Litten until the beginning of January.
