Local weather forecaster IW Met Service has issued an advisory notice for strong winds later on today (Thursday) and overnight into Friday morning. It’s said that an area of low pressure is moving in from the Atlantic bringing some very unsettled conditions, along with very strong winds during tonight. South to Southwesterly gusts of up to 40mph are expected inland and away from windward coasts. On the more exposed coasts and hills, the Island is likely to see gusts of up to 50mph at times. The advisory – which falls short of a full weather warning – is in force from 18:00 this evening until 02:00 tomorrow morning. Islanders should be aware of large waves affecting Western and Southern coasts and the risks of falling debris due to trees being in full leaf. There is a risk of damage to garden furniture and equipment, so ensure that these are made secure before Thursday evening.
