UPDATED: A swathe of strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain at times, will move east across the country tomorrow (Saturday) bringing unfavourable conditions for the Easter weekend – and things are set to get even worse on Monday with the arrival of Storm Katie.
The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for wind tomorrow, which will come into force from 07:00 until 19:00. Coastal areas exposed to the southwest are likely to see frequent gusts of 55-60mph.
Hovertravel say it is anticipated that their services may be subject to delays/cancellation.
On Monday winds will strengthen markedly across southern England, with the potential for 50-60 mph gusts inland and 70 mph gusts around coasts exposed to the south and west as Storm Katie arrives on our shores.
Large waves and a period of heavy rain are expected, alongside the possibility of travel disruption including to cross-Solent operators. Fallen trees and disruption to power supplies are additional hazards.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 11:30 – The Met Office have now issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain from 21:00 tonight.
A period of heavy, persistent rain is expected to move in tonight and into Monday morning, bringing a risk of surface water flooding, perhaps exacerbated in places by wind-blown debris. Widely the South could see 10-20 mm, perhaps 30 mm locally followed by further bands of showery rainfall, which could locally bring 10 to 15mm in only a couple of hours.
The wind warning remains in place and is active from 01:15-15:00 tomorrow.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 16:20 – A flood alert has been issued for the Isle of Wight coast.
Large surges and 5m waves will co-inside with high tide at 02:21 tomorrow morning resulting in the potential of over-topping due to the wave heights at Yarmouth and Ryde, though impacts will be minor.
