A tribute to the NHS and keyworkers is now on display at Wightlink’s Yarmouth terminal thanks to the artistic efforts of local children.
The thank you pictures and rainbows were painted during lockdown by keyworker children from Yarmouth Primary.
Wightlink asked teachers if pupils would like to help in a project to thank NHS and other key workers for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yarmouth Primary is 1 of 4 partner schools with links to the ferry company through its Wightlink in the Community initiative.
Their work can now be seen in the windows of the terminal in Yarmouth where preparations are underway for the re-opening of the Yarmouth to Lymington route on Friday 17th July.
Dean Murphy, Wightlink’s Head of Port Operations, says:
“We were really keen to keep up our links with partner schools during lockdown and the idea of publicly thanking NHS staff and key workers through artwork at the terminal seemed a good way of doing that.
“The artwork brought both a splash of colour and a really important message to the heart of Yarmouth in time for this weekend’s celebration of the NHS’s 72nd birthday and the final Clap for Carers.”
Members of staff Mrs Cheryl Hedley, Mrs Debbie Munn and Mrs Tanya Heimour co-ordinated the activity. Debbie says:
“As key worker children, our pupils were really keen to create these positive messages to say ‘thank you’ and we are pleased that they are now being put on display at a prominent location in the town”.
Nice idea – but no one is going to see it!!
