Around 100 runners took on blustery coastal conditions as Wight Tri staged its annual ‘StubbingNOT’ 10k at Yaverland on Sunday morning.
The popular Island race, held as an alternative to the mainland’s Stubbington Green event, followed the familiar out-and-back route from Yaverland to Shanklin.
Strong headwinds and blowing sand made the outward leg particularly challenging, with some runners sensibly opting to turn back early, while others battled on to Shanklin before heading for home.
The return journey was aided by a tailwind, helping competitors back to Yaverland where hot drinks and homemade cakes were waiting at the finish.
Several runners recorded personal bests on the day, with donations also collected in support of Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
