This is your guide to when and where you can view the Isle of Wight stage of the Tour of Britain between Military Road and The Needles on Sunday 11th September.
The tour reaches Whitwell at around 14:06. From Whitwell, the cyclists will turn into Kemming Road and continue to Niton, which they will reach at approximately 14:09. The event will then head along the A3055 Blackgang Road towards Chale, which the tour will pass through at around 14:14.
The cyclists will now be 2okm from the finishing line at the Needles, racing up the Military Road. The tour will reach Freshwater Bay at around 14:38 before passing through Gate Lane and Bedbury Lane and reaching Totland at approximately 14:41.
The tour will now be only 6 minutes from the finishing line. The cyclists will continue along the B3322 Alum Bay New Road. On reaching Alum Bay, the competitors face a Category 2 King of the Mountain climb up Tennyson Down and a couple of hairpin bends before reaching the finishing line at around 14:47.
Where are the best vantage points to see the Tour of Britain around Newport from Whitwell?
The High Street junction with Kenning Road at Whitwell (sharp left) will be a great vantage point to view the tour at close quarters as will the twists and turns through Niton village. A spectacular viewpoint to see the cyclists heading up the Military Road will be the viewpoint car park at Blackgang.
Spectators will be able to get close to the race at Chale church. Multiple viewpoints are also available along the Military Road, including Whale Chine, Brook Chine, and Compton Bay. The last easily accessible viewing point will be at Freshwater Bay.
Timings may vary depending on race pace. Spectators should allow plenty of time to travel and park.
