This is your guide to when and where you can view the Isle of Wight stage of the Tour of Britain between Merstone and Tapnell on Sunday 11th September.
The tour of Britain makes a rapid descent of Downend Road before reaching Merstone Lane at around 11:54. The cyclists will then hit the main road at Rookley before turning left at Highwood Lane at approximately midday. The tour will turn left into Chillerton before turning right into the B3399 (Kingston Road).
The cyclists reach Shorwell at around 12:12. The tour then passes through Limerstone (12:15), Brighstone (12:17), Mottistone (12:21), Hulverstone (12:23) before hitting the Middle Road at Shalcombe at approximately 12:26. The event will go past Tapnell Farm at close to 12:30 before continuing on to Freshwater.
Where are the best vantage points to see the Tour of Britain between Merston and Tapnell?
Those wanting to see some spectacular racing action can watch the downhill descent down Downend to Arreton Cross. Rookley Green also has plenty of space for spectators, with the bonus of being able to watch the action twice as the cyclists return an hour later.
Those wishing to get close to the racing as the competitors power their way through some of the prettiest West Wight villages may do so at Shorwel, Brighstone, Mottistone and Hulverstone along the B3399 – although parking will be limited.
Timings may vary depending on race pace. Spectators should allow plenty of time to travel and park.
